There are only 53 days left until all employees must be trained on the new label elements and SDS's by December 1, 2013! Steps to Prepare for a Successful GHS Transition

  • Train employees on the GHS system by December 1, 2013.
  • Review and update your chemical inventory.
  • Update your written hazard communication plan.
  • Update Safety Data Sheets (SDS's) based on the inventory.
  • Review and update secondary chemical labels.

Important Dates

  • December 1, 2013   Employees must be trained on new label elements and SDS's.
  • June 1, 2015            All provisions of the hazard communication standard must be complied with, except for dates below.
  • December 1, 2015     Containers must have updated chemical labels for shipping.
  • June 1, 2016             Labeling and hazard communications program must be updated.

Key GHS Elements

The new SDS format (formaly MSDS) is the new, standardized, universal format of 16 specific sections.

New GHS label requirements include pictograms, use of signal words and use of standard hazard statements.
